Tanzanian government policies may hurt economy – IMF

The International Monetary Fund says some government policies reverse Tanzania’s record of stable economic growth.

According to the IMF, President John Magufuli’s approach to the management of the economy faces four key challenges with a risk of undermining the country’s macroeconomic stability.

It listed them as a tight stance on macroeconomic policies, the slow pace of credit growth, weak implementation of public investments and private sector uncertainty about the government’s new economic strategies.

However, the Bretton Woods institution lauded President Magufuli’s anti-corruption drive and tax revenue collection measures, saying they will provide a good foundation for infrastructure investments.
